Eumunchi Healthy Eating and Litter Free Program
Healthy Eating Program Our school encourages students to bring healthy food and drinks each day. Because many students eat breakfast before 7 am, classes have a mid-morning break during lessons so everyone can eat a piece of fresh fruit. This encourages students to continue to bring healthy food and provides them with energy to last until morning tea. Our Tuckshop has a variety of healthy food including; salads, wraps, sandwiches, home-made pies and seasonal fruit. All bread is preservative 282 free. The menu complies with Education Queensland Smart Choices policy. Reducing and Reusing Waste The Eumundi State School community has welcomed ‘ELF’ (Eumunchi Litter Free) into the school with open arms. ‘ELF’ pops up on parade each Tuesday and encourages students to bring their lunch in take home containers to reduce the amount of litter that needs to be disposed of. Teachers support the initiative by stamping students’ ‘ELF Cards’ each day a ‘litter free’ lunch has been brought. Brown paper bags and grease proof paper are acceptable as they are ripped up and put in the orange wheelie food scrap bins for recycling. Snap lock plastic bags are also acceptable if the bag has the student’s name on it and is taken home again for reuse. In conjunction with ‘ELF’, students are encouraged to place all food scraps into the bright orange wheelie bins that have been placed in each eating area. At the end of lunch time these bins are collected by student leaders and the food scraps are emptied into a compost bin or used for our worm farm.
