ANZAC Commemoration

Eumundi State School places particular emphasis on the commemoration of Anzac Day.  Various classroom activities help develop the children’s awareness about its significance.  On our day of commemoration the whole school becomes involved.  Students are encouraged to delve in their family history and find out about relatives who served on active duty for Australia.  Year 7 students put this information (name and rank) onto badges that are worn on the day of the service.  Students bring flowers on the day and each class makes a wreath to lay during the ceremony.

The Commemoration service is held under the town’s giant fig trees, which are the living memorials, planted after the Great War to honour the Eumundi men who had fallen. The service is led by Year 7 students, with representative from Tewantin R.S.L. and members of the Woombye Historical Light Horse Regiment attending.

In September 2003 our school was fortunate to be awarded Queensland and National winner of the Federal Government’s ‘Saluting Their Service’ Programme.

Eumundi’s entry in the primary school category included a video montage of the Anzac Day activities.
